Expert Heating and Cooling was founded in 1975. Bob Maharas and George Burns purchased what was then called Trenton Heating and Cooling, changed the name, and introduced to the Downriver Communities a company that was focused on and promoted quality. Their first employee was Ruth Sutherby, answering the phones and keeping George and Bob focused on their customers needs.
In 1993 Bob became the sole owner bringing his son Mike back into the company where he grew up. Mike and Bob continued to build on the quality concept, hiring skilled technicians and laying the groundwork for future growth. The customer base grew rapidly and soon Expert had a staff of eight. Mike flexed his management muscle and the customer base made steady improvement. Nearly all of the company revenues were generated in the residential segment of the HVAC industry.
In 1997 Mike Maharas and Mark Angellotti bought the business from Bob. Several fortuitous events led to the first year revenues topping 1 million dollars for the first time in company history. One key ingredient was retaining Bob for as long as he would like and of course keeping Ruth, the prime contact for the legion of Expert fans. A decision to serve the commercial segment of the HVAC industry fueled a significant portion of that growth. Steady growth in the residential and commercial business allowed Expert to find and retain the finest technicians to serve our customers. Mark went on the buy out Mikes shares in the late 90's.
Expert Heating and Cooling moved from Downtown Trenton to Allen Road in Woodhaven during the spring of 2003. While the Downriver communities remain our primary focus, we are also currently working in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw and Monroe counties. Today we have the finest staff available, 18 and growing. Our customers know that the odds of the latest heating and cooling "business" surviving are slim.
